Canes beat Bruins in volleyball
In non-district volleyball action, Manatee downed host Bayshore 17-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-13 on Thursday. Hurricanes senior middle blocker Shelby Knox led Manatee with 10 kills, two blocks and an ace, and junior outside hitter Hailey Hall chipped in with seven kills and two aces for the Hurricanes (1-1).
For the Bruins (1-1), Lilla Lukacs had six kills, 12 digs and two blocks, and Bethany Palmer recorded 28 assists and 13 service points.
In JV action, Natalie Marciniak had 10 aces and four kills as the Hurricanes beat the Bruins 25-20, 20-11.
SAINT STEPHEN’S 3, OUT-OF-DOOR ACADEMY 1 — The visiting Falcons rebounded from a loss to beat the Thunder 26-28, 25-19, 25-21, 25-16. Melissa Johnson had 21 kills for Saint Stephen’s (3-1, 1-0 Class 2A-District 11), and Maggie Holbert had 44 assists and 12 digs. Donna Marchese had seven service points for ODA (3-1, 2-1).
The Thunder won the JV match 22-25, 25-8, 16-14. Setter Avory LaValliere played well for the Falcons, who dropped to 1-2.
BRADENTON CHRISTIAN 2, PINELLAS PARK 0 — Abi Ban Ostenbridge had six kills, eight assists and five aces as the Panthers won their first match in the Keswick Invitational, 25-14, 25-15 against Pinellas Park.
Maria DeKuiper had six kills and four blocks, and Ashley Deal had six assists for BCS (4-0).
CARDINAL MOONEY 3, SOUTHEAST 0 — Erin Mooney had six kills, eight digs and eight blocks to help the Cougers improve to 5-0 overall, 2-0 in district play with a 25-19, 25-16, 25-22 sweep. Genny Casagrande had 13 kills, and Sarah Soscia had 13 digs for Mooney.
