Big weekend for Venice volleyball
It is very big weekend for the undefeated Venice High Volleyball Team. The Indians will play a match against nationally ranked Tallahassee Leon (prepvolleyball.com ranked 74th nationally) on 5:30 p.m. Friday. In Class 5A, Venice could meet Leon in the State Championship on Nov 19th, if both teams advance to the finals, and both have high expectations this season. Fans with tickets to the volleyball game can attend the football match for free.
Saturday, the Indians will hook up with another national power, playing Tampa Berkeley Prep (prepvolleyball.com ranked 13th nationally) in a prelude to the Tampa Twice Tournament at the University of South Florida Sun Dome. Venice volleyball fans will remember Berkeley Prep at the preseason classic at the Indians’ gym Aug 27th which Venice lost in 4 games in a very tight match. This is an opportunity to see how far the Indians have come and how far they are ready to go. Venice will be at the Berkeley Prep Tourney in 2 weeks where both Berkeley Prep and Leon will also be participating.
After the Indians-Berkeley Prep match, the University of Florida will play Washington, followed by South Florida against Minnesota. The college event promotes the NCAA Final 4 which will be held in Tampa. Also a kids volleyball clinic will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sun Dome.
