Last season, St. Thomas Aquinas played at Venice and handed the Indians their first home loss since 2001. So when Venice ventured to St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, the Indians were hoping to exact some revenge.
How did the Raiders respond?
They blocked out that thought, literally and figuratively, and won 25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-21. Dee Dee Dennis had nine blocks; Crystal Dedes had eight blocks and Kelly Marble added six blocks to help thwart a formidable Indians' (15-8) attack.
``Our blocking was very strong,'' Marble said. ``It put them off guard, forced them out of their game.''
In the opener, freshman Allison Bellanger had a key kill for a 23-22 lead and then combined with Dennis on a block for a kill. Marble recorded the final two service points including the game clincher on an ace.
Marble had 16 kills, 16 assists and seven digs. Dedes and Dennis combined for 17 blocks and 10 kills. Bellanger had 10 service points and Lauren Spear had seven.
In game three, Dedes had five kills (three off blocks). Taylor Miller and Dennis combined with four kills (two on blocks) to ignite the charge.
Senior libero Anne Langsenkamp anchored a strong defense for the Raiders (14-3)
