Athlete of the Week October 29th - Taylor Capasso

VENICE - The always-powerful Venice Indians volleyball team will play for another district title Thursday night against 21-4 Gulf Coast out of Naples.  One of the key players for the Indians is our ABC 7 High School Athlete of the Week.

If there is any question that big things come in small packages, Venice High's Taylor Capasso --codename Shortay -- leaves no doubt.  "Taylor is one of the shortest players on our team, but she has the biggest heart.  She is a hard worker, a good student," says head coach Brian Wheatley.

Having already decided to play college volleyball at Tampa, Capasso will find it hard to leave this close-knit Indians team.  "These girls are my family, my best friends.  Being together so much makes it so much easier that we are close.  We have a lot of fun," says Capasso.

As they head into this district final, and then on to regionals next week, Coach Wheatley looks to Capasso to find out what is working on each particular night.  "She is one of these kids that gives off a positive vibe.  She does a great job of finding who is hot and who is not.  She is just a leader on and off the court."

Being better than a 4.0 GPA student in the classroom, she knows the correlation between hard work and success - both in the classroom and in the gym.  "It's very important; our whole team knows the value of getting good grades.  It carries over to the court, and we are hard workers in both arenas."
